Winchester Zigzag Staircase

We were asked to create a beautiful feature helical staircase for this oak framed new build. The structure was to be in oak to match the structure of the building, and the staircase had to sit neatly into an opening created by the large structural oak beams. The result was a seamless transition from the large first floor landing down onto the curving staircase. In places we made the oak handrail disappear into the oak beams to make the staircase look and feel like it was part of the house.

The shape filled the double height atrium perfectly and the long gallery overlooking it made the perfect viewing platform. The staircase and gallery were finished of with our sculptural ‘Wisp’ balustrades in solid hand cast aluminium with a light satin polish.
